Fine Art Painting

Throughout my career as an artist, painting has always been one of my mediums. I love to create textural paintings, and my textile wall pieces and embroideries have a painterly quality, especially my felted works (see Felt ‘paintings’, below)

The natural world is my muse, and my work either has a sense of wild space, wild spirit, depth or reflection. Water often features in my paintings, as the sea, lakes, reflections in the canals, or those mists that the river valleys in Derbyshire do so well.

Oils are my preferred medium, due to their buttery texture and slow drying qualities, which allow for playing, scraping, and blending.

I have recently treated myself to a batch of oil sticks and cold wax, and am looking forward to some dedicated time and space to explore them. Cold wax paintings always draw me towards them, for their textures, glow and opacity. The depth they create is beautiful.

I am obsessed with textures, and the colours that compliment each other so well in nature, like the lichens and mosses on stone walls, along with the remnants and markings of old industrial buildings. It is these elements I wish to capture in my paintings in the near future.

I am more than happy to create commissions for spaces, so please contact me with any ideas.
